 the world in my arms

Sometimes you can call me Zach, but Smith works most successfully. I am a fan of sibilance, can you tell? I am attracted by food, shiny new kitchen tools and pans, cooking books and games. My other interests include swimming and water, poetry, travel and trains, cracking my joints, watching bad television, playing computer games, art, compassion and nature. Yeah, I'm a real hippy. My favourite comic book character is Hellboy. My most favourite things about the world are children and green things. I really must write more, and worry less, but we all say that. I love quotes.

Presently, I'm writing (thank (insert deity, belief or expletive here) for that). Fanfiction is usually Star Trek: Enterprise or Assassin's Creed. Original fiction is usually science-fiction, horror or speculative in nature, rarely mainstream but not quite literary either, with a liberal sprinkling of conspiracies, loving teenage mothers, rebellion, all variety of sexual and gender identities, human monsters, space ships and apocalypses.

"While wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. there were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, “It makes a difference for this one.” I abandoned my writing and spent the morning throwing starfish." - Loren Eiseley
